Reflection.

A beggar had been sitting on the side of the road for over thirty years.  One day a stranger walked by.  'Spare some change?' mumbled the  beggar, mechanically holding out her old cap.  'I have nothing to give you said the stranger'.  Then he asked:  'What are you sitting on?'  'Nothing, replied the beggar'.  'Just an old box.  I have been sitting on it for as long as I can remember'.  'Ever looked inside?' asked the stranger.  'No said the beggar.  Whats the point?  There is nothing in there'.  'Have a look inside', insisted the stranger.  The beggar managed to pry open the lid.  With astonishment, disbelief and elation, she saw the box was filled with gold.   (The power of Now, by Eckhart Tolle)

 WOMB OF SILENCE.

Silence is the great revelation, says the mystics.  And so it is.  But to discover the revelation that silence brings, we need to enter into silence, to become silent.  That isn't easy in an active, busy, noisy life and world.

In this Meditation your invited to silence.

1. Sit in a comfortable position, back upright, eyes closed or soft.  Experiment until your body finds a position that is relaxed and alert, and that you can maintain for a period of time.  The Eastern Spiritual masters insist that such a body posture supports the mind to concentrate or focus.

2.  Now allow yourself to become quiet.  Follow your breath in and out until it quietens your body and mind.  Then let go of the breath and simply be attuned to the silence.  Listen for the silence beneath all sound.  If you notice you have become distracted by thoughts or sounds, simply let go and bring your attention back to listening to silence.

3. At the end of 10 minutes bring yourself back into your rooom.

REFLECTION.

* What happened for you in the silence?

* Were you able to enter into it?

* What was the silence like for you?

* Did you find it difficult or easy?

* How do you feel after the silence?

(Meditation - The meeting place training manual).
